The Research Center Borstel (RCB) is an internationally operating Lung Center within the Leibniz Association, financed by the Federal Government and the State of Schleswig-Holstein. We operate extensive laboratory and research infrastructures. Academically, we are closely linked with neighboring universities (Lübeck, Kiel) and clinically with the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein. Position will be based in the group of Prof. Amelia E. Adaptation to changing pH and salinity is essential for fungal pathogens to cause disease and is increasingly important in the environment due to climate change and human activity. In a Wellcome Trust-funded collaboration with researchers at the University of Exeter, the MRC Laboratory for Molecular Biology, and the University of Dundee, we will test whether these environmental changes prime opportunistic fungi for infectious growth, reducing barriers to infectivity. **YOUR TASKS** * Processing of environmental samples and isolation of fungi and nucleic acid (DNA, RNA). * A willingness to assist in the collection of soil and water samples from various regions in Germany would be advantageous * Provide technical support to other projects in the group and assist in the day-to-day operation of the lab (making solutions, autoclaving, etc) * Evaluate research data in consultation with scientific staff and document all laboratory activities electronically * Participate in (virtual) monthly project meetings with other grant partners based in the UK. **YOUR QUALIFICATIONS** * Completed training as a biological technical assistant or similar qualification (e.g. B.Sc. or M.Sc. in the life sciences). Candidates in the final stages of obtaining their degrees are welcome to apply. * A good understanding of microbiology or molecular biology and the ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new content and skills * Ability to work independently, responsibly, and with a high attention to detail. * Ability to work in a Biosafety Level 2 laboratory.
