**Job Duties** * Client has dementia and is oftentimes confused. May need directed to bathroom, bedroom, chair, etc. Walks independently but may need if using stairs, on occasion client has some difficulty with arthritis flare and will need hands-on assist to stand but generally not. Client is however a HIGH fall risk so supervision when ambulating is a must. * Is continent of b/b but sometimes needs cueuing to properly redress after using restroom. Needs prompting for toothbrushing, hair combing, applying deodorant (if working morning shift). * Meal preparation-mostly light, easy meals and loading dishwasher afterward. Applying clothing protector (depending on outfit-typically no big deal.) Sometimes messy eating but eats, drinks, chews just fine. * The largest part of the job is supervision and companionship. This job requires caregiver to be a person genuinely interested in working with at-risk individuals. We want the client to feel comfortable and to have a caregiver who is interactive, asks questions, tells stories, communicates freely and often with client. * Someone who expects to only pay attention when client is walking or asks a questions directly expecting interaction need not apply. We are looking for someone who has a background in caregiving or is perhaps planning to become a CNA, or is a CNA (CNA will lead to other job openings later). Someone who is curious about dementia and is intuitive or experienced in communicating with dementia-affected elderly. * Will need to chart tasks performed during shift, client's activity, mood, behavior, level of ADL (if not skilled in ADL charting that's ok. We will get there). * Communicate with family members immediately if there is a change in client's physical condition, accident, or any disruption. **Requirements** * You are not expected to transport patient but do need to have reliable transportation to be on time for work due to family members needing CG service so they can leave for work. Timeliness is critical so that other people's jobs are not affected by late arrivals, call-in's. We anticipate paying you above standard rate and bonus for being on-time and consistently showing up for your shifts. If there is late arrival or an absence during the pay period, there will not be a bonus paid for that work week. * Knowledge of patient observation techniques, patient monitoring and documentation and reporting to family any incidents or change in physical condition * Familiarity with dementia care, Alzheimer's care, memory care strategies are pluses!!! * Allowing client to maintain dignity and having respect for people are two mandatory skills. * This is not a come to work and get on phone kind of job. You are expected to pay attention to the client's needs at all times you are getting paid. * Small bonus for attending all shifts each week. * Must be able to pass a background check. Having previous experience is definitely a plus. Will train a new caregiver who shows commitment to service during interview. This is not a hard job but patience is expected as client is confused but kind, friendly, and likes to converse. This position could open doors to other opportunities, caregiving, CNA, or shifts at a different business in upcoming weeks. Overall, we want someone who is sincerely interested in being a companion and providing a safe and cozy environment for someone who is very laid back and easy to care for. Any kind of theft, financial exploitation, abuse or neglect, fraud or violence, weapons charges-even verbal assault will not be hired. Don't even apply. Minor incidents in the past we can discuss. We are not extremely strict but anything that feels suspicious for potential to harm, deceive or manipulate an elder is not a candidate for this job.
